A practicing neurosurgeon, Gupta has been on assignment for some of the international community's biggest news stories of the past decade. Just months after joining CNN, he covered the 9/11 attacks. He reported live from Sri Lanka during the 2004 tsunami and contributed to CNN's Peabody Award-winning coverage of Hurricane Katrina. During the war in Iraq, Gupta reported as an embedded correspondent with the U.S. Navy's medical unit where he performed five brain surgeries. Recently he traveled to earthquake ravaged Haiti reporting and providing medical support. Gupta is a member of the faculty and staff of the department of neurosurgery at Emory University’s School of Medicine where he still performs surgeries.
